So John Chow says, “If you’re not passionate about the topic you’re blogging about, then you’re going to have a hard time growing the blog”.
And while I’d love this blog to become some huge phenomenon like John Chow or iJustine or MostlyLisa, apparently I’m just not passionate enough to get it off the ground.
I mean, okay. I’m passionate about lots of things. But do I really blog about those things, and do I do it often? Absolutely not. Even though I tell myself I blog about web stuff, that’s not good enough. There’s no real subject there. I just kind of write about whatever comes to my attention.
And most of the time, I just blog about the status of the blog. Such is the life of a baby blog? No. I don’t have to pester people with post after post of “the new design is coming soon… promise!” crap. And I apologize for that!
And while I’ve been known to mention little aspects of my real life within posts, the posts always start off with something regarding this blog. So is that about to change? Maybe. First I need a real subject. I’m not some social butterfly like iJustine or MostlyLisa, so I can’t just blog about my life and have a fanbase appear out of nowhere.
So what am I passionate about? There are a few things that come to mind: Food, books, Apple, the environment… but can I turn those into subjects? Food - maybe. Books - probably not. Apple - that’s a little overdone. The environment - occasionally.
So… this is a food/environment blog? Ha! No. So do I just stick to the way things are going, posting about my life (mediocre as it may seem)? Do I throw in a few recipe posts? Why not? I’ve already thrown in a minipost about the environment, and that’s definitely something I will continue doing.
I guess that just leaves me with a vague, random topic. This blog is about… stuff. Brilliant? Perhaps.
